Building Footballdle

A behind-the-scenes look at building Footballdle — a daily Premier League guessing game with three ways to play, made as a personal side project.

Footballdle started as a lunchtime experiment and turned into a proper side project. If you've ever finished your daily Wordle and thought "I wish this was about football," that's basically the whole pitch: a daily word puzzle, but for Premier League surnames.

Game modes

There are three ways to play. Daily is the classic mode — one hidden six-letter Premier League surname, one guess a day, with the usual green/amber feedback on each letter. Scout Report flips it around: pick any player and get gradually more specific clues about their club, nationality, and position until you land on the name. Spot the Baller is the arcade mode — ten rapid-fire rounds, a countdown clock, and no room to overthink it.

Footballdle is free to play, with a new puzzle every day.
